Description
The STM32 Nucleo-F446RE is an advanced, official development board from STMicroelectronics. It steps out of the minimalist “pill” form factors and provides a professional-grade prototyping platform equipped with a highly powerful processor and a built-in hardware debugger.
Product Description
-
Core Architecture: Powered by the high-performance ARM Cortex-M4 processor running at 180 MHz. It includes a hardware Floating-Point Unit (FPU) and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) instructions.
-
On-Board ST-Link: Unlike the Blue Pill or Black Pill, the Nucleo series features an integrated ST-LINK/V2-1 debugger and programmer. You just plug in a mini-USB cable to your PC, and you can step through your C code line-by-line, set breakpoints, and inspect memory in real time without needing external programming hardware.
-
Expansion Headers: It features two sets of pin headers:
-
Arduino Uno V3 headers: Allows you to stack standard Arduino shields directly onto the board.
-
ST morpho headers: Provides full access to all STM32 I/O pins for advanced prototyping.
-
Key Specifications
-
Clock Speed: 180 MHz (more than double the speed of the standard Black Pill and over ten times faster than an Arduino Uno).
-
Memory: 512 KB Flash and 128 KB SRAM.
-
Advanced Peripherals: Includes multiple high-speed ADCs (up to 2.4 MSPS), dual DACs, advanced motor-control timers, CAN bus, and SPDIF-Rx for audio.
-
Power Options: Can be powered directly via USB or through external power supplies (3.3V, 5V, or 7V–12V).
Common Applications
When developing advanced flight controllers, high-speed sensor fusion algorithms, or complex motor synchronization systems at Trinetra Drones and Robotics, the Nucleo-F446RE provides the heavy computational horsepower required. It is also widely used in industrial automation, audio processing, and RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) evaluations.
